Zircon Gemstone is one of the most brilliant and beautiful  gemstones, second only to the diamond in brilliance. This gemstone  exhibits exceptional brilliance and a diamond-like luster.

Zircon comes in many colours and one of the most popular is blue.  Zircon colors include: brown, orange-red or yellow-red, violet-red, green, blue, and black.

There is also a colorless zircon  which can be mistaken for diamond.  This variety of zircon from Matara, Sri Lanka has become synonymous with fake diamonds, and have come to be known as "matara diamonds."   There is also a variety of different color Zircon gemstones found in Sri Lanka.

Zircon gemstone  has unfortunately in recent years become tarnished by its name-only similarity to cheap, synthetic Cubic Zirconia, a man-made substitute of Zircons.  Of course the two are totally distinct in their chemistry, optical properties and origins.

Sri Lanka, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, France, India, Italy, Madagascar, Norway, Russia, Thailand, South Africa and USA are  the major producers of Zircon gemstones.
